Why Rimba is the smart choice for families
As one of three properties in the vast Ayana estate (alongside Segara and the flagship Ayana), Rimba is often celebrated as the most affordable. But “affordable” here doesn’t mean a compromise. It’s the smartest value proposition, especially for families.
Why did we choose Rimba? Two words: the pool. Rimba is home to an incredible kid-friendly pool with a waterslide that kept our daughter, Evie, entertained for hours. Since we spent most of our time exploring the complex, a larger room at a more expensive property wouldn’t have given us a better return on fun. Rimba offers incredible access to all the amenities, making it a perfect base for your Balinese adventure.
Getting around your private Bali
The Ayana complex is massive. While you could walk everywhere, the Balinese humidity has other ideas! Thankfully, the resort’s complimentary shuttle service is a lifesaver.
These open-air “trams” (which feel more like fun safari buses) run a continuous circuit, arriving at stops every 10 minutes. They’re efficient, a great way to see the grounds, and provide a wonderful breeze to dry off after a swim. It’s a highlight for kids and adults alike!
Want to explore beyond the resort? We highly recommend the Grab app (Southeast Asia’s equivalent of Uber). It’s affordable and reliable, with drivers always nearby to whisk you off to Seminyak, Uluwatu, or other local attractions.

Before you even arrive, download the Ayana app. It’s your essential companion for navigating your stay. You can check shuttle times in real-time, browse restaurant menus, make bookings, and see the daily schedule of events. It makes settling in on your first day completely seamless.

With so many options, you’ll never eat the same meal twice.
Breakfast champions
You have three main choices: To’ge at Rimba, Padi at Ayana, and Karaang at Segara. We were based at To’ge and it was a triumph. Beyond the extensive Asian and Western buffet, the showstopper is the glass-walled bakery. Walking in to grab a warm, fresh-out-of-the-oven croissant is a breakfast dream come true.
Lunch & dinner standouts
Sami Sami
This waterfront Italian restaurant is perfect for a sunset dinner. The wood-fired pizzas are excellent, and the spaghetti marinara was a hit. The atmosphere is chic yet relaxed.
UNIQUE Rooftop Bar
Don’t let the Mexican theme in Bali surprise you—this place is incredible. The ocean views are stunning, and the tacos and quesadillas were so memorable they’d hold their own in any major city.
Kampoeng Bali
For a dose of culture with your dinner, this buffet experience is a must. Hosted every second night, you’ll enjoy traditional Balinese dancing and a thrilling fire show. It’s a fantastic, family-friendly evening.
Scusa
This Mediterranean restaurant at the base of Segara offers high-quality seafood in an elegant but kid-welcome setting. The squid and barramundi were superb.
A Note on dining with allergies: Our daughter Evie has wheat and egg allergies, which can make travel daunting. The Ayana team was exceptional. By noting her allergies when booking, every restaurant was prepared. Chefs often came to our table to discuss options, and they even provided gluten-free bread. ICE Gelato was a particular saviour, offering delicious, safe treats that made Evie feel included.
What to do: Pools, beaches & beyond

Rimba main pool
Our home base. The waterslide is a massive hit for kids, and it’s easy to snag a daybed. The upper, adults-only infinity pool offers stunning views for parents needing a quiet moment.
Kubu beach
A breathtaking cove at the end of the tram line. Take the scenic elevator down and treat yourself to a 15-minute beachside massage. The sound of the waves and the scent of frangipanis is pure bliss. (Watch out for cheeky monkeys!).
The River Pool
A true Instagram legend. It’s so popular that photo sessions are now restricted to 7:30-9:30 AM so guests can actually enjoy swimming in its beautiful, tiered waters.
Rock Bar
An iconic sunset spot. As Ayana guests, you get preferential access. Sipping a cocktail with a DJ playing as the sun dips below the horizon is an essential Bali experience.
Saka Museum
Opened in 2023, this free museum is a beautiful new addition, showcasing Balinese culture. We saw an exhibit on the Day of Silence, and it houses the largest Ogoh-Ogoh (demon statue) in Bali.
Final tips & considerations for your stay at Rimba by Ayana
The room
Our Rimba room was comfortable and perfect for our needs. A minor note for fellow travelers: the bathtub/shower combo was a little high to step into, and a few more towel hooks would have been welcome. These were tiny points in an otherwise flawless stay.
The meal hack
We had a half-board package (breakfast and lunch or dinner). Our pro-tip? Have a substantial breakfast at To’ge, and you might find you only need a light poolside snack and one other main meal for the day.
There is constant improvement at Ayana
Ayana is always evolving. The new museum opened last year, and a nightclub was nearing completion during our stay. In 2025, a new kids playground which looks amazing was completed. Despite the constant upgrades and expansions, the resort never feels crowded or too busy.
We really think Ayana is the best luxury family resort in Bali
Our second visit to Rimba by Ayana, this time with a child, solidified its status for us. It masterfully blends the elements of a romantic getaway with the practical, fun-filled needs of a family holiday.
