With us expecting our first baby, we were faced with the exciting task of deciding where we’d like to enjoy a babymoon. Living in Sydney, we didn’t have a lot of choice given most state borders were closed for the majority of the year. We landed on a Byron Bay babymoon and were so glad we did irrespective of border openings!

Byron Bay is located on the far north coast of New South Wales. The region is famed for its beautiful beaches, stunning hinterland and cruisy vibe. It’s very popular with the celebrity set as well. So keep your eye out as you roam about town, you just never know who you might run into.

We spent a week in Byron Bay and stayed at two different resorts: Elements of Byron and the Byron at Byron. Whilst we initially wanted to stay at just one resort, we found it really difficult to get availability. However, it gave us the opportunity to try out two of the leading resorts in the area.

Why choose a Byron Bay babymoon?

#1 Luxury resorts to pamper yourself before life changes in a big way

Looking to spoil yourself on your babymoon? One great way to do that is to spend some time at a luxury resort.

Byron Bay has a great array of luxury resorts. The two largest are the ones we stayed at, Elements of Byron and Byron at Byron. However, there are more boutique options too such as Raes at Watego.

With onsite restaurants, stunning pools and day spas, you don’t even need to leave your accommodation.

#2 Easily accessible from most parts of Australia

Byron Bay is easily reached from Ballina Airport, which is serviced by many different flight paths. If borders are open too, Gold Coast Airport is another close option. If you do fly, we’d recommend hiring a car. Unless of course your plan is to just chill out at a resort the whole time.

Byron Bay is also a fantastic road trip option for those living in NSW or Queensland. We decided to do a road trip from Sydney to Byron Bay. It’s about 750km and takes approximately 8 hours with no stops. Whilst we might normally do that trip in a day, it’s a wise decision to break it up being pregnant. We stopped in Coffs Harbour for two nights on the way up, and explored the surrounding area. On the way back we stayed in Port Macquarie for one night.

#3 A warm climate and (hopefully) great weather

Whilst you can never be 100% confident you’ll get amazing weather on your babymoon, you’re in with a good chance when choosing Byron Bay. Being located on the far north coast of New South Wales means the region is one of the warmer climates in the state. In fact, average winter highs are around 19 degrees. So if your plan is some beach and pool time, you’ve chosen well in Byron Bay.

#4 Mix of remoteness and beachside busyness

If you’re seeking a mix of quiet time and nights out on the town, Byron Bay is the perfect option. If you’re after some quiet time, there’s so many options. Spend a day chilling at the beach. Head out to one of the cute little towns in the hinterland region. Or choose a remote AirBnB to enjoy the last moments of it just being the two of you.

Then get a mix by heading into the main town in Byron Bay, which is abuzz day and night. Enjoy some afternoon mocktails in one of the bars, catch the sunset by the beach and then head out to one of the great restaurants in town.

#5 Lots of great food options

If you’re keen to enjoy some great food and leisurely brunches before life gets hectic with a newborn, Byron Bay has you covered. There are so many well-rated cafes offering up healthy and wholesome food to nourish your expanding bump.

There are so many options for you to consider, but I’d recommend at least one trip out to The Farm Byron Bay. Here you’ll find Three Blue Ducks, which serves up farm to plate meals all day.

Where to stay for your Byron Bay Babymoon

There is no shortage of options for your babymoon in Byron Bay. From luxury resorts to self-catered AirBnBs, you’re spoilt for choice in this region.

We’d highly recommend a stay at either Elements of Byron or Byron at Byron. Or perhaps you could split it up like us and stay at both! Whilst they are both high-end resorts, they were very different experiences.

Elements of Byron Babymoon

Opened in 2016, Elements of Byron by Sofitel is still the new kid on the block.

Without doing it a disservice, Elements reminded us of the caravan parks we holidayed in growing up, taken to the next level and then some. The individual villas are spaced out with your nearest cabin some distance apart from yours. This ensures a quiet, distant stay from your neighbours. No shared walls here! Villas are along a series of roads – hence the non-detrimental caravan park reference.

Location

Elements of Byron is located north of the centre and main town of Byron Bay. It’s a beachfront property with direct access to Belongil Beach. Despite its close proximity to the town, it’s in a quiet area with the resort occupying the entire section of coastline.

For those not wanting to head into the main town, there’s an IGA, bottle shop and some restaurants located a short 3 minute drive away.

Given the location and the logjam into Byron of an evening, we’d highly recommend your own vehicle. Taxis and Ubers may be a little unreliable. Each villa has their own parking spot as well so that makes it much easier.

The accommodation

We stayed in a 2 bedroom villa (upgraded we presume!) which was surprisingly spacious and deceiving from the outside. The oversized bathroom and doorless shower are a dream. All rooms supplied with Appelle’s evoking the smells of Australia in the bathroom.

Equipped with a kitchen, large fridge and dishwasher, we were able to take advantage of bringing some of our own food too, easing the burden on the wallet.

Resort facilities

The property is set over a large space, including a major swimming pool, beachside chairs and a stunning vista towards Cape Byron. Our pick of the property was the adults only swimming pool. Sadly, we won’t be able to use that again anytime soon! We took advantage of the cabanas, which surprisingly did free up throughout the day despite the property being at capacity. With a swim up bar and serving a range of reasonably priced Mexican dishes, a couple of tacos with your mocktail are a must.

The Azure restaurant serves reasonably priced modern Australian fare. The wood fired pizzas were probably the pick during our stay, although nothing else truly stood out as remarkable.

Osprey Spa offers a great range of services for those looking to destress. Be sure to book your treatment well ahead of schedule as they do book out.

Yoga is available and inclusive for guests. I was really looking forward to the sleep ins so didn’t participate. But it might be up your alley!

Service

Unfortunately we did find that the property falls down a bit on the service side of things. It can feel a bit ‘big’ at times, and loses the personal touch you’d expect with the prices for rooms here. We had quite a few service breaks from check in, to during and then even at check out. As an example, we were charged for our stay again on check out, despite pre-paying our stay. There were no make or break errors, but it certainly was not what we’d expect at this price point.

Babymoon bonuses

We didn’t book a babymoon package but advised Elements of Byron at booking and at check in that it was our babymoon. Not that it’s to be expected, but we didn’t receive anything special from the property. I’m not sure if this is a normal process, but don’t expect anything over and above the inclusions for a celebratory stay. In fact, I barely got a smile and congratulations at check in which was quite underwhelming.

Byron at Byron Babymoon

The elder luxury statesman of Byron Bay, the Byron at Byron will appeal to those who enjoy spending their time amongst the rainforest. This property is set on over 45 hectares of rainforest. Complete with all sorts of flora and fauna for you to take in on the boardwalk rainforest walks. For those still wanting some beach time, there’s a fairly flat 15 minute walk to the beach too.

Location

Byron at Byron is located just south of the main town of Byron Bay. It’s essentially in Suffolk Park, which is a suburb with a real mix of accommodation. There’s high-end luxury homes (think the Hemsworth crowd), boutique villas and your more “standard” homes too.

Being such a huge property it does feel quite isolated, which is so lovely. But, pop in your car and you’ll be in the centre of town in just a few minutes.

The accommodation

Byron at Byron has wings of rooms set all over the property. We were in the Bungalow rooms, on the second level (there are only two). This room had to be one of our most favourite rooms we’ve stayed in. Wide, open and spacious, you’ll be hard pressed to want to leave. A balcony at the front and the rear of the villa, both enclosed with fly screens to keep the pesky bugs away. This alone felt like a design feature so many other properties could learn from, and one we absolutely loved.

The natural air flow through the apartment made it feel very summery. And when combined with the chirping birds, made us feel like we were perched high above the tree tops.

A King sized bed and large bedroom await. The chaise lounge made it feel extra comfortable in the living area. A spacious and modern bathroom with sliding doors to the living area and bedroom made it appear bigger than it was.

The kitchen was equipped with stove top, range hood, fridge, dishwasher and even a washing machine. Great if you’re hanging around for a longer stay. Unfortunately ours was just the two nights.

Resort facilities

Byron at Byron has just the one pool, but there was plenty of room to grab a lie down bed or a cabana. The pool is bathed in sun for the morning until mid-afternoon. A small range of drinks are on offer and a tight snacking menu.

Despite it not actually being an adults only pool and resorts, we found that the majority of guests were there without children. So if you’re after some peace and quiet before bubs arrives, you might luck out with it being adults only anyway.

The Byron at Byron restaurant has a modern Australian menu. It’s priced at what you’d expect for an on site restaurant, and the food served here is of a great quality without being particularly memorable.

There is of course an on-site day spa offering up a whole host of treatments. So if you’re looking for a pregnancy massage, you’re in luck here. Do look to book in advance though as they were quite full when we stayed.

Service

A much smaller, personable property than Elements, the staff will bend over backwards to help you in any way possible. This was evident from the moment we checked in, where multiple staff members assisted us with our bags. We were even personally taken to our accommodation and our bags put away for us.

Babymoon bonuses

We also advised Byron at Byron it was our babymoon, and we were delighted with the added bonuses we were given on our stay.

Firstly, upon checking into our room we were greeted with some sweet treats and a note congratulating us on our babymoon. I then discovered that they had provided a pregnancy pillow in our bedroom. Finally, a check in phone call 15 minutes after our arrival made us feel incredibly welcomed.

Summarising our Byron Bay babymoon

Having stayed at both of the properties, we’d love to take the room and service at Byron at Byron and combine that with the adult pool area at Elements. That would have been our absolute dream property. Both end up in the same price range, and depending on how far out you’re booking, it may come down to availability alone. That is what dictated our stays during an abnormally busy spring period for Byron Bay (thanks border closures!).

We hope this article has helped you decide on the babymoon of your dreams! Have you stayed at either of these properties before? We’d love to hear about your experience in the comments below.
